Holding Onto Christmas

Sup Juggalos,

This time of year is usually very difficult for people who feel alone.  The feelings of loneliness do not have to limited to those who have no one around them.  Some people are surrounded by people but also feel very alone.  This feeling of despair is greatly increased during the Holiday Season and it is times like these that we need to be reminded that truly as Juggalos or even just as spiritual people we are never alone.

It’s funny… I’ve been watching the TV with my children and we have seen Rudolf, Frosty and the Miracle at your Mom’s Street, but with all the different religious celebrations from various cultures across the globe happening during these Holidays all I see is the fat red-robed bastard.  Commercialism is rampant during the Holidays.  Quick it’s September let’s put out the candy and costumes.  Now before we’re done with that let’s put the costumes at half off and start pimping those turkeys.  Before we have a chance to even stop and wonder what the hell we were Thankful for you better fight off the crowds, evade reduced price raging shoppers and try not to get stabbed over the new XBOX Kinect.  Has the Blackness of Black Friday corrupted what was meant to be Joy for the Season.

Alas, there are other things that have become tradition over the Holiday Season, like spending time with your Family.  Normally we come together and gather and someone’s house to either enjoy the pleasantness of Family getting together and catching up, or indulge in our favorite game of name that Drama Queen.  Regardless of the quirks that some families have it’s good to see how everyone is doing with their Life.  But Not everyone has a functional Family.  Coming from a dysfunctional Family I fully understand what it is like to live in an environment that instead of harboring Love, Comfort and Values, you find Jealousy, Deceit and Violence.  Where as what should be a Family figure who either nurtures or shares with you, instead you have betrayal and pointless competition.  It is for those unfortunate who have these situations (which would probably be the majority  vice the minority) the Holiday Season is a constant reminder of that which we should but do not have in their Life.

I find that there are a lot of conservatives who have trouble stomaching the idea that you can have Family that is not your blood.  It is important for me to make this statement:  Blood Family is very important, however any human can combine genetic sequences and proteins to create a child, but it takes REAL Family to raise a child.  So truly Family is where you find it.  Family comes in many forms.  Perhaps your grand parents are not those whom you live with or visit, but perhaps it is the old crone who lives down the street who bends your ear to wisdom and warms you with her smile.  Perhaps the one who is your mother is the one who brings you comfort, nurses your wounds and encourages you to do better and open your heart.  Perhaps the one who is your father is the older man who you respect who protects you and passes one words of knowledge and guidance.  Family is one that helps you grow, one that makes you better, one that loves you unconditionally.

In these trying times it’s hard to remember who your Family is and sometimes we find ourselves left out in the cold.  Let us not forget that the younger generation looks up to the old heads within the Juggalo Nation.  If you have the ability please open your home or organize a holiday party in your area so that the Juggalos who feel left out during the Holidays feel that they have a place to go.  I remember when I was stationed in Virginia Beach we would organize a picnic or sometimes a Secret Ninja Santa.  We would do something so that the folks who couldn’t celebrate with warmth by a fire at least felt the warmth of our hearts.

Happy Holidays this season and remember that it isn’t the gifts that we buy or the tree that we decorate, but it’s the Peace and Goodwill towards Mankind.  These are the things worth holding onto this Christmas.
